Shiromani Akali Dal supremo Sukhbir Singh Badal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decisive and strategic response to the recent threats from “enemies of peace” across the border. On Tuesday, Badal congratulated the nation’s citizens, particularly the armed forces, for their significant victory against terrorists and their backers in Pakistan. He commended PM Modi for his diplomatic skill in managing the situation, especially after compelling the Pakistan Army leadership to appeal to Washington for a ceasefire. “Following a decisive victory on the battlefield, the prime minister acted as a statesman in agreeing to their request for a halt to hostilities. Achieving peace after victory is the most honorable path,” Badal stated.
The Shiromani Akali Dal, previously part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, criticized politicians who have denounced the ceasefire agreement as warmongering. Badal remarked, “These politicians have never experienced the devastation of war; they merely observe it from their living rooms. They are the true enemies of the nation.” He highlighted that Punjab would have been severely affected had the conflict persisted, noting that a significant portion of India’s population resides in border areas, including populous cities. He warned, “A full-scale war would have led to unparalleled loss of life and property, which we have fortunately avoided by swiftly concluding hostilities after Operation Sindoor.”
Badal further addressed Pakistan’s attempts to instill hatred among Sikhs by alleging that India was targeting Nankana Sahib, reiterating that the Sikh community rejected such claims. He stressed their desire for peace and expressed gratitude to the central government for prioritizing the nation’s welfare. Notably, India and Pakistan agreed on May 10 to cease military actions following four days of intensive cross-border drone and missile strikes.
