Operation Sindoor: PM Modi’s Stern Warning Against Terrorist Threats
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his first address to the nation following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, praising the armed forces for their decisive actions. He stated that every terrorist now “knows the price of removing the Sindoor of women,” highlighting a new phase in India’s fight against terrorism. Speaking on the third day of a ceasefire after four days of hostilities from Pakistan, Modi emphasized that the country views any future terror attack as “an act of war,” warning that “nuclear blackmail won’t work.”
Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 in response to the brutal attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 24 Indian tourists, one tourist from Nepal, and a local pony handler. The attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and investigations revealed that three Pakistani terrorists were part of the attack team.
Modi described Operation Sindoor as an “unwavering pledge for justice,” dedicating it to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of India. “Operation Sindoor is not just a name; it reflects the sentiments of our people,” he declared. The Prime Minister underscored that terrorists who attempt to erase cultural symbols like Sindoor from the foreheads of Indian women will face severe consequences, as India has disrupted the operations of over 100 terrorists previously operating freely in Pakistan.
In addition, Modi condemned Pakistan’s backing of terrorism, asserting that they have been taught a lesson. “When our missiles and drones struck terror sites in Pakistan, we not only destroyed buildings but also shattered their spirit,” he stated. He affirmed that India would not distinguish between terrorists and their supporters, suggesting no trade or dialogue with Pakistan unless it pertains to terrorism in Kashmir. His remarks included the ultimatum, “Blood and water cannot flow together,” aimed at the context of the Indus Water Treaty.
Reflecting on the broader implications of these events, Modi referred to evidence of state-sponsored terrorism, noting that Pakistani army officers have attended the funerals of terrorists. He made it clear that any territory where terrorism is fostered by Pakistan is vulnerable to action by Indian forces.
The Pahalgam attack, which took place on April 22, shocked the nation. The victims were shot in cold blood, including the pony handler who lost his life while attempting to save a tourist. Following the attack, India targeted terror bases, successfully dismantling multiple sites associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, and eliminating several high-profile terrorists, including those involved in past offenses such as the 2019 Pulwama attack and the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC 814.
Among the notable casualties during these operations were key figures linked to the terrorist organizations, including Mudassar Khadian Khas and Khalid alias Abu Akasha of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as well as Mohammed Yusuf Azhar and Hafiz Mohammed Jaleel of Jaish-e-Mohammed. Mohammed Yusuf Azhar is notably related to the Jaish founder and is wanted for his involvement in significant terrorism-related incidents.
