Breaking News: Mumbai Local Train Update – Central, Harbour, and Western Railway Services Resume Amid Torrential Rainfall!

Mumbai ground to a halt on Monday morning as over 300 mm of rainfall drenched the city in just six hours, continuing throughout the day. This torrential downpour led to waterlogging in many low-lying areas, severely affecting vehicular movement and disrupting local train services.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured the public that all major transportation routes had been cleared and restored. He confirmed that senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials were stationed at key waterlogging-prone locations, and disaster management authorities, including the State Disaster Management Authority, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), BMC, Army, Navy, and Air Force, were on high alert. Eastern and Western highways, as well as all railway lines, resumed normal operations. NDRF teams have also reached the three coastal districts in the state.

Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Swapnil Dhanraj Nila reported that while services on the mainline and harbour line are back on schedule, there were disruptions at Nahur and Chunabhatti stations. Additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) and commercial department staff were deployed to manage the crowds and ensure safety.

Local train services, which had been suspended for several hours due to waterlogging, restarted on Monday afternoon. Central Railway announced on social media that trains are now operational on the central, harbour, trans-harbour, and Belapur/Nerul-Kharkopar lines. Despite this, local media reported cancellations of several trains from Thane to Karjat and Kasara, with fast trains to Ambernath and Kalyan running 15-20 minutes late. Western Railways, meanwhile, indicated that their services were running smoothly but with delays of up to 10 minutes.
