CPI Alleges BJP’s Manipulation of Religion as a Political Weapon: Unmasking the Power Play for Control

CPI State Secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao addressed the party’s district conference in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, where he leveled serious accusations against the BJP. He claimed that the BJP employs a range of questionable tactics to gain political power, particularly by manipulating religious sentiments.

Mr. Nageswara Rao emphasized that the BJP’s strategy involves creating divisions among regional parties while exploiting religion to enhance its electoral prospects. However, he cautioned that this approach may not always resonate with voters. “People are unlikely to vote based on religion consistently,” he remarked, underlining the importance of addressing broader issues.

He further critiqued the BJP’s tenure, stating that the party came to power in 2014, capitalizing on the failures and corruption of the previous Congress government. The BJP had promised significant reforms, including doubling farmer incomes, creating two crore jobs annually, and repatriating black money, yet none of these promises have come to fruition, he claimed. “As of now, not a single promise has been implemented,” he asserted.

Additionally, Nageswara Rao highlighted the BJP’s focus on the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant after winning a second term. He remarked on the party’s ambitious goal of securing 420 Lok Sabha seats for a potential third victory, yet noted that it failed to obtain enough seats to govern independently.

Reflecting on the Left parties’ historical role, he pointed out their previous support of the UPA-1 government, which was characterized by effective administration. However, he criticized the UPA-2 leadership, led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, for ignoring the Left’s perspectives, particularly regarding the controversial nuclear deal with the United States. This decision, according to Nageswara Rao, jeopardized national interests and led to a no-confidence motion against the UPA-2 administration that ultimately fell short due to alliances with leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati.

Concluding his remarks, he expressed disappointment over the failure of Left parties to establish a viable third alternative to challenge both the BJP and Congress effectively. The conference, which celebrated its 25th ‘Maha Sabhalu,’ included notable attendees such as CPI district secretary M. Paidiraju and 162 delegates from across the district.

The criticisms laid out by Muppalla Nageswara Rao reflect ongoing tensions in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape, raising critical questions about governance, accountability, and coalition politics as the next elections approach. The discourse around these themes will likely shape voter sentiment in the coming months.
