Himanta Biswa Sarma Calls for Bihu Events Cancellation Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for the cancellation of all remaining Bihu functions set to take place from May 10 onwards, effectively concluding the month-long celebrations for this traditional festival. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sarma expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for their lively participation in the Bihu festivities that took place across the state.
The Chief Minister stated, “Over the past month, we have joyfully celebrated Bihu across Assam through numerous cultural events. I sincerely thank everyone for their participation and contributions.” His appeal comes at a crucial time, marked by heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The situation has created distress among citizens, particularly following reports of explosions in the Jammu region on the night of May 8.
In light of these circumstances, Sarma remarked, “The time has now come to conclude this festive season. I humbly appeal that all remaining Bihu functions scheduled from 10th May onwards be kindly cancelled. Let us bring this vibrant celebration to a graceful close, with the same unity and spirit in which it was celebrated.” His words resonate with a call for solidarity and reflection amid a backdrop of growing concerns for public safety.
