Tripura MLA Appeals to Amit Shah for Urgent Action Against Illegal Bangladeshi Infiltration
Tripura legislator Ranjit Debbarma reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 8, advocating for the swift establishment of a high-power committee in the state aimed at identifying and repatriating illegal foreigners while imposing suitable penalties. As a member of the Tipra Motha Party, Debbarma stressed the necessity of prompt legal actions that would thwart illegal infiltration and enhance the detection and identification of unauthorized individuals, coupled with substantial imprisonment and fines prior to their immediate deportation.
Debbarma highlighted concerns regarding the rising influx of foreigners exploiting vulnerabilities in the security infrastructure along the Indo-Bangladesh border. He noted a significant rise in infiltration in the Tripura sector due to escalating tensions in Bangladesh. While he criticized the Mobile Task Force’s performance, he commended the effectiveness of the Government Railway Police in managing border security.
Citing a recent case, Debbarma mentioned that Tripura Police apprehended 23 Bangladeshi nationals in the North District a few months ago. He warned that the presence of unauthorized foreigners poses a significant threat to national security and sovereignty, especially as many new entries have reportedly settled in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, particularly in regions like Chawmanu, Gandacharra, Karbook, and Shilachari. Some of these infiltrators have allegedly established entire communities using forged documents and, in some instances, have obtained government forest land through fraudulent means.
Moreover, Debbarma accused these Bangladeshi nationals of utilizing counterfeit Indian identification documents, including Voter IDs, Aadhaar cards, ration cards, PAN cards, and even Indian passports. He claimed that some are involved in local businesses such as petrol pumps and ration shops or work as masons and carpenters.
In light of the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh and shifting geopolitical circumstances, Debbarma urged the need for a specialized High-Power Committee in Tripura. This committee should include the Administrative Secretary of Home, Home Secretary, District Superintendents of Police, District Magistrates, Collectors, and a State Level Nodal Officer tasked with the identification and deportation of illegal foreigners after implementing appropriate penalties.
Additionally, Debbarma called for the establishment of check posts and camps within Indian territory, staffed by personnel from the Tripura State Rifles, Tripura Police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF. He advocated for a Special Mobile Task Force dedicated to detecting and preventing illegal entry, along with a high-level intelligence wing comprising local personnel to help identify unauthorized foreigners and take strong action against document forgers. He also proposed deploying intelligence teams at critical transit points like bus stands, railway stations, and airports to intercept illegal infiltrators.
