Diana Taying Shatters Barriers as Arunachal Pradesh’s Trailblazing First Woman Football Referee

Itanagar: Diana Taying has etched her name in history as Arunachal Pradesh’s first woman football referee to officiate at the national level. At just 26 years old, she took the field at the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar, a milestone that marks a significant step forward for gender representation in sports officiating.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to celebrate Taying’s achievement. “Kudos to Diana Taying for Making History as Arunachal’s #FirstWomanFootballReferee at National-Level!” he tweeted, highlighting her dedication and excellence. Khandu expressed his hope that Taying would continue to break barriers and inspire others in the field.

In her notable debut, Taying served as an assistant referee for the match between Manipur and Andhra Pradesh at the IOCL Barauni ground in Begusarai. The game concluded with Manipur securing a decisive 3-0 victory. Taying’s officiating has not only brought pride to her home state but also serves as a beacon of encouragement for aspiring female referees across the region.

Earlier this year, Taying achieved a significant milestone by passing the All India Football Federation’s National Football Referee Examination in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The rigorous examination included both physical and written assessments, reflecting her commitment to her craft.

Hailing from Miglung village in the East Siang district, Taying holds a BA, a BPEd, and an MA in sports psychology. Her academic background complements her passion for football, marking her as a multifaceted individual who blends education with sports.
