Grand Flag Hoisting Kicks Off Bokakhat Central Spring Festival: A Vibrant Celebration of Culture and Community
Extensive preparations are in full swing for the Bokakhat Central Spring Festival, set to take place on May 13, 14, and 15, coinciding with the traditional Bohag month (29th to 31st). The festival promises a vibrant and engaging program, highlighted by a ceremonial flag hoisting that occurred on Monday at the Bokakhat Central Bihutoli premises. The event was led by lifetime advisors Gopikananda Saikia and Khagen Bora, alongside committee officials who participated in traditional rituals, including lamp lighting and blessings from local elders.
Organized collaboratively by the Bokakhat Station Club, Sammilit Yuva Sangha, Madhya Bokakhat Bihu Sanmilan, Nagarik Kalyan Samiti, and Central Bihu Sanmilan, this year’s festivities take on special significance as they celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Station Club’s Stage Bihu. Kicking off on May 13 at 9:00 AM, the festival will feature the hoisting of the main flag alongside 50 others. Attendees will pay tribute to departed souls, followed by a grand cultural procession at 10:00 AM that will highlight the heritage of around 25 ethnic communities.
At 11:00 AM, the festival will recognize participants from recent Bihu dance and dhol drumming workshops with certificate distributions. Later in the afternoon, competitions for Huchori, Mou-Bihuwoti, and Namdoyang Bihurani 2025 will be inaugurated. These events will draw participants from across Assam, fostering community engagement and cultural pride.
The second day, May 14, will feature a dynamic lineup, starting with a marathon competition for boys and girls from the Golaghat district at 5:00 AM. A fancy dress competition for children will follow at 10:00 AM, and at 11:00 AM, women from the Golaghat district will participate in contests showcasing traditional attire and floral arrangements. The day will continue with a friendly interactive session featuring former committee members and esteemed locals at 3:00 PM, before culminating in a cultural evening at 7:00 PM, headlined by popular singer Astha Zita.
The final day on May 15 will include solo and group creative dance competitions centered on selected Assamese songs for participants from Golaghat district, beginning at 10:00 AM. A commemorative souvenir marking the Golden Jubilee will be launched at 5:00 PM, followed by an award distribution ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions. The evening will culminate with a musical tribute by renowned Assamese singer Neel Akash, alongside performances from the winners of the earlier competitions.
In addition to being a celebration of culture, the Bokakhat Central Spring Festival serves as a platform for unity and community spirit, drawing attention to the rich tapestry of traditions in Assam.
