Ladakh Council Unveils Ambitious Rs 255.26 Crore Budget for Transformative 2025-26 Development
The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Kargil has approved a substantial budget of ₹255.26 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This significant financial decision was unveiled during a General Council Meeting, presided over by Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, held at the Conference Hall in Baroo. The meeting commenced with a heartfelt tribute to the late Haji Mohd Hassan Khan, a former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, and to the victims of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
During the meeting, CEC Akhoon underscored the notable achievements from the previous fiscal year and commended various departments for their effective execution of developmental projects. “Our collective efforts have yielded tangible results, enhancing the quality of life for our citizens,” he remarked. The Deputy Commissioner of Kargil, Shrikant Suse, received accolades for his exemplary management of expenditures, which earned him the prestigious Excellence Award from the Prime Minister.
A range of developmental initiatives was launched, including upgrades to roads in Drass, the establishment of a Stock Assistant Training Institute, the inauguration of an anti-drug addiction center, and new residential and hostel facilities. These projects aim to bolster the socio-economic framework of the region, reflecting a commitment to comprehensive development.
Key topics of discussion during the session included enhancing healthcare facilities, filling teaching positions, promoting tourism, and planning for lift irrigation and winter hostel facilities. The importance of ecological conservation was highlighted with a firm call to action from the CEC, urging residents to minimize plastic use and protect the fragile environment of Ladakh.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to improve inter-departmental coordination and ensure the timely execution of ongoing and forthcoming developmental works. Council members recognized that only through unified efforts can the region meet its growth objectives and improve living standards for its residents.
As Kargil embarks on this new fiscal journey, the approved budget reflects a concerted effort to address pressing local issues while promoting sustainable development practices. With strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and health services, the LAHDC aims to create an environment conducive to growth, prosperity, and ecological balance in Ladakh.
