Meghalaya Pavilion Shines at WAVES Summit in Mumbai

MUMBAI, May 2: The Meghalaya Pavilion at the WAVES Summit, held at the Jio World Convention Centre, has garnered significant attention for its vibrant display of the state’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. Represented by actor and content creator Dawan Kharkongor, the pavilion has created a buzz among visitors, with Kharkongor reporting overwhelming interest in Meghalaya’s scenic landscapes and the various initiatives taken by the state government to promote tourism and investment opportunities.

CEOs, industrialists, and influential personalities have flocked to the pavilion, eager to learn more about what Meghalaya has to offer. Many inquiries revolved around the state’s picturesque beauty and its burgeoning tourism sector, highlighting the growing recognition of Meghalaya as a destination worth exploring investment-wise.

Throughout the event, local artists provided a lively atmosphere by performing traditional music and songs that reflect the unique culture of the region. This not only entertained attendees but also showcased the artistic heritage of Meghalaya, further enhancing the pavilion’s appeal.

Despite the absence of a formal delegation from the Meghalaya state government, the event saw participation from prominent figures. Filmmaker Dominic Sangma was nominated by the Assam government to share insights into the challenges faced by filmmakers in the Northeast. During a panel discussion, Sangma addressed the obstacles encountered, particularly noting the lack of dedicated cinemas in his native Garo Hills. “I come from Garo Hills and we had to screen my movie ‘Rapture’ in an auditorium because we don’t have a theater in Garo Hills,” he shared, emphasizing the need for better facilities to support local filmmakers.

Dominic praised the WAVES Summit for its focus on a broad spectrum of the media and entertainment industry, not limited to filmmaking alone. He asserted that the summit serves as an essential platform for artists across disciplines, allowing them to network and explore new opportunities within the visual arts sector.

As the WAVES Summit continues, the visibility garnered by the Meghalaya Pavilion demonstrates the state’s commitment to leveraging its cultural and natural assets. The positive responses from attendees not only reflect an interest in the state’s tourism appeal but also signify potential growth in investments and artistic collaborations. With local creators and officials keen to engage with new audiences, Meghalaya is poised to emerge as a prominent player in the tourism and entertainment landscape.

This event serves as a reminder of the importance of showcasing regional talent and resources, paving the way for further exploration. The enthusiasm and engagement from visitors affirm that Meghalaya is ready to shine on a larger stage, making it a destination of choice for travelers and investors alike.

As the summit unfolds, the contributions of Meghalaya at WAVES will only bolster its image as a hub of creativity and cultural significance in India’s Northeast.
