BTC’s Inaugural Executive Council Meeting in New Delhi: Pioneering Change and Innovation
On May 1, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) made history by convening its Executive Council meeting at the Bodoland Guest House in Kailash Colony, New Delhi. This milestone gathering brought together BTC leaders to discuss strategic initiatives for inclusive development and cultural enhancement in the region.
BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro addressed the media following the meeting, outlining a range of critical decisions designed to propel the Bodoland region forward. Among the noteworthy announcements was BTC’s plan to express gratitude to several prominent figures, including the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and Chief Ministers of Assam and Delhi. This acknowledgment comes in response to their roles in facilitating the installation of a statue in honor of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, alongside the naming of a road after him. Additionally, the BTC committed Rs. 25,000 monthly to the Delhi Municipal Corporation for the ongoing maintenance of the statue site.
“Guided by Bodofa’s philosophy of ‘Live and Let Live’, we are committed to working in harmony with all 26 communities of BTR,” Boro emphasized, echoing a commitment to unity and collaborative progress.
The BTC revealed plans to collaborate with IIT Delhi to enhance healthcare services and implement specialized programs supporting individuals with disabilities. As part of its environmental initiatives, the council announced the establishment of 420 organic centers through Village Council Development Committees under the ‘Bodoland Green Mission’.
Cultural promotion was also a focus, with the BTC set to publish a multilingual wordbook that features languages from all 26 communities. To further encourage harmony and progression, the council will organize a workshop centered on ‘Sustainable Peace.’
Tourism and adventure sports are expected to receive a significant boost as well. The BTC has outlined plans for world-class river rafting facilities on three major rivers, along with the construction of ten homestays aimed at enhancing local tourism.
In another forward-looking move, BTC is preparing to launch the third phase of its ambitious 100-day action plan starting in June, which targets a broad spectrum of development objectives. The council also seeks to address long-standing land-related issues in partnership with the Assam government.
Sporting initiatives have not been overlooked, with the BTC in various stages of preparing for the third edition of the Duronto Cup Football Tournament. Development of football infrastructure is set to take place at the VCDC level, while control rooms will be established for effective flood management across 21 rivers.
The Executive Council meeting was attended by BTC Executive Members and departmental officials, reflecting a unified approach to the advancement of Bodoland. The decisions and plans set forth during this landmark meeting underscore a dedicated commitment to the holistic growth of the region, encompassing health, culture, environment, and sports, all with the aim of fostering community cohesion and sustainable development.
