Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 46th edition of PRAGATI today, a multi-modal ICT platform designed for proactive governance and timely implementation across various levels of government. The meeting reviewed eight significant infrastructure projects, including three road initiatives, two projects each from the railways and ports, shipping, and waterways sectors, with a total estimated cost of around ₹90,000 crore.
In a bid to streamline beneficiary identification, Mr. Modi instructed all ministries and departments to utilize biometric Aadhaar authentication for verification processes. His push for enhanced accountability highlights the government’s commitment to transparency in implementing welfare schemes.
Additionally, the Prime Minister proposed integrating more programs into the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, focusing on child care, health, hygiene, and cleanliness. This initiative aims to bolster the overall welfare of mothers and newborns, ensuring comprehensive support during critical periods.
While discussing infrastructure development, Modi emphasized the crucial role of a planned Ring Road as part of a comprehensive urban strategy. He urged authorities to align this project with the city’s long-term growth, planning for the next 25 to 30 years. Moreover, he suggested exploring the integration of a Circular Rail Network within the city’s transport framework, presenting a sustainable and complementary solution for public transportation.
The Jal Marg Vikas Project also featured prominently during the review. Here, Modi underlined the importance of community engagement along riverbanks to boost cruise tourism. By fostering local ecosystems and enhancing business opportunities, particularly for artisans aligned with the ‘One District One Product’ initiative, the project aims to invigorate regional economies.
Further stressing the need for cohesive planning, the Prime Minister reiterated the significance of utilizing tools like PM GatiShakti and other integrated platforms. He underscored that adopting these technologies is vital for achieving inter-sectoral synergy and facilitating efficient infrastructure development.
To ensure successful outcomes, Mr. Modi directed all relevant stakeholders to maintain and regularly update their databases. Current and accurate data, he pointed out, is essential for informed decision-making and effective long-term planning.
