Assam Muslims’ Passionate Protest After ‘Namaz’: A Stand Against Pahalgam Terror Tragedy

After performing their traditional Friday prayers, Muslim communities throughout Assam united in condemnation of the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. This public outcry occurred as multiple protests were organized outside mosques across the state, with participants vehemently opposing the violence and calling for stringent measures against those responsible.

The attack, which transpired in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, left at least 26 people dead, the majority of whom were tourists, and injured many more. These tragic events have prompted widespread denouncement from Assam’s Muslim population, who gathered in large numbers to voice their sorrow and anger. Liyaqat Ali, addressing the congregation at Bada Masjid in Silchar, Cachar district, emphasized that “Islam does not support terrorism; it is a faith of peace-loving individuals. Terrorists are devoid of any true religious identity.”

As part of their protests, participants brandished placards and chanted slogans such as “Pakistan murdabad,” “down with terrorism,” and “start a war against Pakistan.” These actions were mirrored across various districts, including Sonitpur, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Barpeta, and Nalbari, where concerned citizens gathered to vocally oppose the attack.

Adding his voice to the chorus, Assam Assembly’s former Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar expressed his profound dismay at the atrocities committed by the terrorists. He stated, “Our words fall short compared to what the terrorists have done. We condemn it in the strongest possible manner and urge the Indian government to take appropriate action.” His call reflects a collective sentiment among many in Assam who are urging the authorities to respond decisively to such acts of violence.

Across the state, the condemned attack has spurred impassioned protests, unified by a shared desire for justice and peace. While denouncing the senseless act of violence, the protesters reiterated their belief that terrorism stands in stark contrast to the principles of Islam, which advocates for harmony and coexistence.

The need for stringent responses and repercussions for those perpetrating terrorism remains a central theme, highlighted by both public figures and ordinary citizens. Such unified calls for decisive action underscore the widespread impact this tragedy has had, extending far beyond the local populace of Pahalgam to resonate deeply with communities across India, including Assam.

Through their actions, the Muslim communities in Assam have made it clear that they staunchly oppose any attempts to associate their faith with violence and terror. Their message is unequivocal: true religious beliefs promote peace, not bloody conflict. As these communities continue to voice their indignation, the call for a robust response to the Jammu and Kashmir attack becomes ever more pertinent, presenting a united front against terrorism in all its forms.

In this unfolding narrative, Assam stands as a testament to the rejection of terrorism and the pursuit of peace, proving that communities can unite in the face of adversity to call for justice and to ensure that such tragedies do not recur.
