Tripura Intelligence Chief Boosts Kailashahar Security After Violent Waqf Protest Unrest
Unrest in Tripura’s Kailashahar Subdivision: DG (Intelligence) Conducts High-Level Review
A scuffle between police and protesters in Tripura’s Unakoti district has left the region on edge after a protest rally against the Waqf Amendment Bill turned violent on April 12. The incident, which took place in Kubjhar village, saw protesters pelting stones and bricks at security personnel, who responded with force. In the chaos, both police and protesters sustained injuries.
Eight people have since been arrested in connection with the incident. Following the confrontation, heavy security was deployed across Kailashar to prevent further unrest.
DG (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar’s Visit to Kailashahar
In response to the incident, Director General (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar traveled to Kailashahar from Agartala on Sunday evening, where he convened a high-level review meeting at the Kailashahar Police Station. The meeting, attended by DIG (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath, Unakoti SP Sudhambika R, and other senior officials, aimed to assess the situation and identify measures to maintain peace in the region.
"We were expecting a routine review, especially with festivities like Chaitra Sankranti and Poila Boishakh approaching, which bring large crowds and necessitate increased security," DIG Debnath explained to reporters. "Fortunately, since the incident, the situation in Kailashar and Unakoti district has remained peaceful."
The DIG emphasized that the people of the district value harmony and peace, and are not prone to violence. "We are committed to ensuring the region remains secure and peaceful for everyone," he said.
A Focus on Security and Health
During the meeting, Dhankar asked for a detailed report on the April 12 incident and inquired about the condition of injured police personnel, directing that they receive proper medical care. This emphasis on security and the well-being of personnel reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those who enforce it are protected.
The officials also emphasized the role of community and law enforcement in maintaining peace and preventing further unrest. This approach underscores the importance of cooperation between authorities and the public in achieving stability in regions that have experienced flare-ups.
This recent incident serves as a reminder of the need for dialogue and cooperation in times of conflict. By prioritizing security, public safety, and education, the Unakoti district can move forward in a positive and inclusive direction.
