Sourav Ganguly Reappointed as ICC Cricket Committee Chairperson: A Fresh Era of Leadership
Sourav Ganguly Re-appointed as ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Chairperson, VVS Laxman Returns as Member
Dubai, April 13 – Cricket legend Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chairperson of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, while his longtime national teammate VVS Laxman has been selected as a member of the panel for another term. This decision was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday.
Ganguly, 52, had initially taken over as the chair of the committee in 2021, succeeding former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble, who stepped down after serving a maximum of three terms. As the chairperson, Ganguly is responsible for making key decisions and recommendations to the ICC on various cricket-related matters.
Joining Ganguly and Laxman on the committee are former Afghanistan player Hamid Hassan, West Indies batting great Desmond Haynes, South Africa’s Test and ODI skipper Temba Bavuma, and ex-England batter Jonathan Trott. The ICC has opted to maintain a diverse and experienced panel of members to ensure that the cricket committee’s decisions are well-informed and representative of the global cricket community.
Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee has also undergone a change, with former New Zealand off-spinner Catherine Campbell taking over as the new chairperson. Alongside Campbell, the committee now comprises former Australian player Avril Fahey and Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Pholetsi Moseki. The newly appointed women’s committee will focus on promoting and developing women’s cricket globally, and will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the women’s game.
Both committees will play a significant role in shaping the direction of cricket globally, and their decisions will have a direct impact on the game. As the sport continues to evolve, it is essential that the ICC cricket committees remain proactive and forward-thinking, taking into account the changing needs and preferences of players, fans, and stakeholders. With Ganguly and Laxman at the helm, the ICC can be confident that the men’s and women’s cricket committees will be in capable hands, working towards a brighter future for cricket.
