SRH’s Abhishek Sharma Opens Up on the ‘Harsh Reality’ of Losing Four Straight Matches
IPL 2025: Abhishek Sharma Scripted a Special Win for SRH, Ending Four-Match Losing Streak
Abhishek Sharma’s 141 off 55 balls helped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) break their four-match losing streak and return to winning ways with an eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a high-scoring encounter on Saturday. The flamboyant opener’s stunning batting display enabled SRH to chase down PBKS’ massive total of 245/6 with nine deliveries to spare.
Sharma’s much-needed knock came at a time when SRH had slipped to the bottom of the points table, and his performance was all the more significant given that the team had lost four consecutive matches. “This one is very special, because I wanted to break that losing streak. Losing four back-to-back matches was very tough,” Sharma revealed. He credited his team’s mentor, Yuvraj Singh, and Suryakumar Yadav, for their support and encouragement throughout the tough period.
The win propelled SRH to 8th place from 10th in the IPL standings, and Sharma’s parents, who were watching from the stands, would have felt proud to see their son give a sterling performance. He attributed his easy-paced batting to the conducive wicket, which allowed him to invent and innovate his shots. His partnership with opening partner Travis Head was crucial in setting the tone for the chase.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins praised his bowling unit for trying their best on a docile wicket. “I think you don’t have too many options, it’s a good wicket, the slower balls aren’t really reacting, ball pings around here, so you just try,” he said. Cummins, who is a big fan of Sharma’s batting, appreciated the opener’s ability to adapt and play natural cricket.
For PBKS, skipper Shreyas Iyer felt that his team’s failure to take excellent catches proved costly. “He (Sharma) was a bit lucky as well even though he played an exceptional knock. Catches win you matches and we fell short there,” Iyer said, also acknowledging that his team needed to regroup and come back stronger.
In summary, Abhishek Sharma’s dominant batting display played a crucial role in SRH’s impressive eight-wicket win over PBKS, ending their four-match losing streak and sending a strong message to the rest of the teams in the IPL 2025 tournament.
