Female Revolutionary Leader among 7 Key Insurgents Arrested in Manipur Raids
On April 11, 2025, a coordinated operation between the Manipur Police and security forces led to the arrest of seven individuals affiliated with various proscribed outfits across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi districts. The arrests were a significant blow to the activities of PREPAK(Pro), KCP (Noyon), KYKL, KYKL(SOREPA), and KCP(PWG), as six of the seven arrested individuals were found to be actively engaged in extortion, arms transport, and cadre recruitment.
Angom Surjit Singh, 34, of PREPAK(Pro) from Phayeng Sabal Leikai, Imphal West, was one of the key arrests. Huidrom Sunder Singh, 39, of KCP(Noyon) from Checkon, Imphal East, was involved in arms transport and extortion, while Leichombam Pakpi Devi, 37, of KYKL(SOREPA) from Leimaram, was active in extortion and recruitment. Other notable arrests included Moirangthem Suranjoy Meitei, 31, of KYKL from Lamlong Bazar, Imphal East, and Mangsidam Wanglen Singh, 22, of KCP(PWG) from Lei Ingkhol, who was caught with nine demand letters.
Two individuals, Md. Ashadon, 22, of KCP(PWG) from Urup Awang Leikai, and Hensonpiek Vaiphei, 23, who was nabbed while extorting a truck driver on NH-2 near Kangpokpi, were also among the arrested individuals. The authorities seized multiple mobile phones, demand letters, and personal items from the suspects, further highlighting the extent of their involvement in illegal activities.
Authorities hailed the operation as a significant success, citing the swift and targeted action as a testament to their commitment to neutralizing insurgent threats and restoring peace in the region. The arrests demonstrate the government’s determination to tackle the menace of insurgency in Manipur, and the operation will undoubtedly send a strong message to those involved in such activities.
