Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to share his personal experience of narrowly escaping the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He was scheduled to stay at the Taj Hotel that night but changed plans and moved to another hotel at the last minute, just missing the carnage. Sarma’s experience has left him with vivid memories of the horror that unfolded, including witnessing the NSG operation.

Sarma expressed his sense of closure and renewed confidence with the arrest of key conspirator Tahawwur Rana in India. Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian national, had been extradited to India and is now in NIA custody, facing charges related to the 26/11 attacks. The arrest is a significant development in the investigation, with investigators seeking to uncover additional details about the plot and the role of LeT masterminds such as Hafiz Saeed and Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

Rana was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) upon his arrival in Delhi and was produced before a special judge, who granted the agency 18 days of custody. The extradition was a tightly guarded operation, with Indian authorities using a dummy code for the flight and keeping all movements confidential. Rana was flown in on a special Gulfstream G550 aircraft from Los Angeles, with a stopover in Romania, and was escorted by NSG commandos and senior NIA officers.

The arrest of Rana marks a significant milestone in the investigation into the 26/11 attacks, which killed 166 people and injured many more. The attacks were orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and investigators believe Rana played a key role in helping instigate the plot.
