Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet Approves Reforms for Recruitment and Police Service

The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has cleared several path-breaking initiatives aimed at streamlining the recruitment process, nurturing the state’s police service, and boosting the efficiency of public healthcare infrastructure. The key decisions, approved at Monday’s meeting, are expected to expedite the recruitment process and benefit long-serving staff.

To streamline the recruitment process, the Cabinet has given the go-ahead for the introduction of a common examination scheme for direct recruitment to the posts of assistant and junior engineers. This move will enable the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to finalize the syllabus in consultation with the respective departments. The Cabinet believes that this reform will significantly expedite the recruitment process.

In another key decision, the Cabinet has approved a “one-time relaxation” of the upper age limit for direct recruitment. This relaxation will allow candidates to apply for posts where previous vacancy notifications (issued before 2024) have been or will be cancelled by the APPSC, subject to specified conditions. This move is expected to benefit candidates who may have missed earlier opportunities due to age restrictions.

The Cabinet has also cleared the notification of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (4th Amendment) Rules, 2025, which aims to streamline cadre management, promotions, and rank structure within the state police. This reform is expected to enhance job security, improve accountability, and boost morale among police personnel.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has approved the creation of 280 new posts across various categories in the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department. These new posts will address the aspirations of long-serving staff, provide opportunities for new recruitments, and enhance overall departmental efficiency.

Apart from these reforms, the Cabinet has also approved a presentation made by the Finance, Planning, and Investment Department on the memorandum to be submitted to the 16th Finance Commission. The presentation highlighted the state’s financial priorities and projected requirements for the next fiscal year.

These reforms are expected to have a positive impact on the state’s governance and development landscape. With the Cabinet’s approval, the state is poised to adopt more efficient and transparent recruitment practices, strengthen its police service, and improve public healthcare infrastructure.
