Unforgettable Culinary Journey: Discover the Best Vegetarian Delights in Bangkok from Pad Thai to Dumplings

Exploring Bangkok’s vibrant culinary scene is both a feast for the senses and a treat for the adventurous palate. This dynamic city, known for its boat noodles, pad Thai, and mango sticky rice, may seem daunting for vegetarians. Yet, armed with research and a sense of discovery, vegetarian visitors will find Bangkok brimming with delicious plant-based delicacies.

Upon arriving in Bangkok, the familiar cheese toastie from 7/11 was not an option for lunch. With a belief that every culture holds vegetarian treasures, I ventured out, notes and internet-ready, for plant-based options. At the Ratchathewi district’s Jasmine Siam Kitchen, I savored a delectable tofu Thai green curry with sticky rice. The aromatic blend of kaffir lime and lemongrass perfectly complemented the jasmine rice, providing a tantalizing introduction to Bangkok’s vegetarian offerings.

While convenience was crucial, given my simultaneous role as a tourist, the bustling Siam Paragon food court became a go-to spot. Here, Thipsamai’s tofu pad Thai with a sticky sweet-sour sauce did not disappoint, paired with refreshing veggie spring rolls and watermelon juice—a staple for beating Bangkok’s heat.

No Bangkok journey is complete without indulging in its rooftop dining experiences. Le Du Kaan, led by Michelin-star Chef Thitid Ton, offers a menu filled with vegetarian delights that stand on their own merit. The tom saap hed, a spicy-sour mushroom soup, and the fuk thong yang, grilled pumpkin in mushroom sauce, complemented the 56th-floor panoramic views. Their signature pad Thai, coupled with an extensive cocktail list featuring locally brewed spirits, ensures an elevated dining experience.

Navigating Bangkok’s sights included a ferry ride along the Chao Phraya River with stops at iconic places like the Grand Palace. Culinary highlights included the Michelin Guide-approved K Panich mango sticky rice and the vegetarian pad kar pao at Phed Mark in Sukhumvit. For seamless nights, Bangkok’s Grab app facilitated effortless ordering, with local joints offering items like mushroom cheeseburgers from Shake Shack at my fingertips.

A foray through Bangkok’s Chinatown uncovered its vibrant street art and architecture. Song Wat road provided a perfect midday pause at Barbon, a craft beer and cocktail haven overlooking the river. A light meal at Gu Long Bao included plant-based pork baos amidst offerings like taro and sesame buns.

Concluding the journey with a visit to Asiatique The Riverfront, I explored its open mall, enjoyed attractions like a vintage ship, the ferris wheel, and the Mystery Mansion haunted house tour. At the Siam Tea Room, as traditional Thai dance unfolded under warm lights, I reveled in an extensive vegetarian menu featuring spring rolls, dumplings, and local specialties, realizing my initial apprehensions were unfounded. Bangkok had not only offered sustenance but also provided a flavorful adventure that surpassed expectations.

This exploration, made possible by Marriott International’s hospitality, underscored how vegetarian travel in Bangkok is not just about surviving but truly savoring. Whether relishing street foods or indulging in upscale dining, Bangkok delights every palate with a rich blend of flavors and cultural experiences.
