Shocking: 284 Caught in Cyberabad’s Weekend Drunk Driving Crackdown – A Crucial Wake-up Call!
Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police carried out a significant crackdown on drunk driving, successfully identifying 284 motorists across the Cyberabad commissionerate. This targeted effort aimed to curb intoxicated driving, concentrating on key areas including Miyapur, Jeedimetla, Balanagar, and Gachibowli. Of these areas, Miyapur witnessed the highest number of violations with 53 cases reported, while no incidents were recorded in Kukatpally and RC Puram.
A staggering majority of the offenders were two-wheeler riders, accounting for 248 of the cases. Additionally, nine three-wheeler and 27 four-wheeler drivers were found in breach of the law, though no infractions among heavy vehicle operators were reported during this operation. Cyberabad Traffic Police emphasized the dangerous implications of driving under the influence, reiterating their commitment to public safety.
The operation disclosed that all offenders were men, predominantly between 31 to 40 years old, responsible for 110 cases, followed by 97 offenders aged between 21 and 30. The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels varied significantly among the violators. While 112 motorists registered BAC levels between 51 to 100 mg/100 ml, 58 individuals recorded levels between 101 to 150 mg/ml, and another 21 fell between 201 to 300 mg/ml. Alarmingly, 12 offenders were found with BAC levels exceeding 500 mg/100 ml, highlighting a severe breach of traffic safety norms.
All individuals caught during this operation will be produced before the court. In instances where driving under the influence leads to fatal accidents, offenders face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. As stated by the Cyberabad Traffic Police, “Those who commit such serious offenses will be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder,” a grave charge that can lead to up to ten years in prison alongside fines.
This rigorous initiative not only underscores the Cyberabad Traffic Police’s dedication to reducing road incidents but also serves as a reminder of the legal and personal consequences of drunk driving. The authorities have consistently focused on educational campaigns and stringent enforcement measures to create greater awareness and adherence to road safety laws in Hyderabad.
As part of ongoing efforts, Cyberabad Traffic Police will continue to conduct these checks regularly, aiming to significantly bring down the rate of intoxicated driving in the region. By ensuring that the offenders are legally reprimanded, the initiative seeks to set a precedent, discourage such behavior, and ultimately foster a safer driving environment within the city.
This operation aligns with broader road safety initiatives in Hyderabad, marking it as a serious measure contributing towards minimizing traffic-related fatalities and injuries. Residents and motorists are urged to adopt safe driving practices and comply with traffic regulations as part of their civic responsibility. By doing so, we can collectively create safer streets and protect the well-being of all road users.
