Government Boost: Cabinet Approves Historic Rollout of Vibrant Villages Programme Phase 2
The Union Cabinet has approved the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP), a central sector scheme aimed at comprehensive development of select villages located along international borders. The programme will be funded entirely by the Centre, with a total outlay of Rs 6,839 crore, to achieve its objectives of creating better living conditions and livelihood opportunities for residents in these border villages.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the programme as a “game-changing medium to transform our border villages into the nerve centers of growth and development”. The Modi government’s commitment to the programme is part of its vision for “Safe, Secured & Vibrant land borders”, with the ultimate goal of assimilating the border population with the nation and making them “the eyes and ears of the border guarding forces” crucial for internal security.
The programme will focus on select villages in 12 states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The scheme will be implemented till 2028-29, with the aim of creating prosperous and safe borders by controlling trans-border crime and improving the quality of life for residents in these villages.
The government’s initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the socio-economic development of these villages, which will be transformed into vibrant hubs of growth and development. By providing adequate livelihood opportunities and better living conditions, the programme aims to promote the overall prosperity of the border population, ensuring they become an integral part of the nation’s internal security strategy.
The approval of the Vibrant Villages Programme-II marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to modernize India’s borders and make them more secure and prosperous. The programme’s success will depend on its effective implementation, which will be monitored closely to ensure that its objectives are met and its impact is meaningful for the residents of these border villages.
