Delhi Court Shocks with Denial of Anticipatory Bail for Puja Khedkar

Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail for Ex-Maharashtra Cadre IAS Officer in Fraud Case
New Delhi, August 1: A New Delhi court on Thursday denied anticipatory bail to former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar from Maharashtra, who faces allegations of submitting counterfeit OBC and PwBD certificates. Khedkar is accused of fraudulently exceeding the permissible attempts for the Civil Services Examinations (CSE) by misrepresenting her identity.
Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala has expanded the scope of the investigation, directing the Delhi Police to probe whether other individuals recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) have similarly exploited quota benefits unlawfully. The court also instructed investigators to determine if insiders within the UPSC facilitated Khedkar’s alleged fraud.
On Wednesday, the UPSC revoked Khedkar’s provisional candidature for CSE-2022 and imposed a permanent ban on her from all future examinations and selections. According to the UPSC, its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) failed to identify her violations due to her altering both her own and her parents’ names.
In light of these developments, multiple authorities including the UPSC, Central government, Maharashtra government, and Delhi Police are independently investigating Khedkar. Additionally, the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie has recently terminated her field training as a trainee IAS officer in the Pune and Washim districts.
