Manipur Police Clamp Down on Illegal Stone Quarrying, Arrest Five Individuals
In a significant operation, the Manipur Police arrested five individuals involved in unauthorized stone extraction at Lungthar village in Thoubal district on April 2. The crackdown marks the security forces’ concerted effort to curb illegal quarrying activities and protect the environment.
The arrested individuals include Wairokpam Somorjit Meitei (28), Keisham Sumonanda Meitei (26), Haobam Naocha Singh (19), Md. Rami Khan (41), and Md. Abir Khan (35). Along with the arrests, police authorities seized three Tata Dumper Hyva trucks and one JCB machine from the site, effectively halting further illegal extraction.

Other search operations and area domination exercises were conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, leading to the recovery of prohibited items such as a Baofeng handheld Set, BP Jacket with plate, and live ammunition.
In a separate operation, the police seized carbines, magazines, and live ammunition from Khangabok Loukol in Thoubal district. On the same day, security personnel launched a series of operations across the state, resulting in the arrests of three individuals, including two militants.
