Manipur Crackdown on Illegal Drug Trade: 3 Arrested, Rs 4 Crore Worth of Brown Sugar Seized
In a significant operation, a joint team of central and state forces in Manipur apprehended three alleged drug traffickers and seized 26 soap cases containing brown sugar worth approximately Rs 4 crores. The interceptions were made at different locations in the southern parts of the state on Wednesday.
The first operation was conducted by the security forces along NH-2 under Moirang-PS, Bishnupur District, where they apprehended Md. Faiju Rahaman (40) of Kairang Mamang Leikai, Imphal East District. During a random frisking check between Naranseina and Sunusiphai village, the team recovered 12 soap caps with suspected Brown Sugar weighing around 661.8 grams in total and impounded a four-wheeler from his possession.
In a separate operation, the Assam Rifles apprehended two individuals in possession of 14 soap cases of brown sugar during an intelligence-based operation on the road between Tuitong and Sehlon in Chandel district. Acting on specific input, authorities established a mobile vehicle check post and intercepted a car, conducting a thorough search that revealed the contraband hidden in the boot. The suspects were then handed over to the Molcham police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
These operations demonstrate the Indian security forces’ commitment to combating the illegal drug trade in Manipur, particularly in the southern parts of the state. The seized brown sugar has an estimated value of Rs 4 crores, highlighting the significant financial and social impact of drug trafficking in the region.
