Mizoram to Celebrate World Art Day with UNESCO on April 15, Connecting Culture and Creativity
Mizoram to Host India’s Celebration of World Art Day on April 15
Mizoram has been selected to host India’s celebration of UNESCO’s World Art Day on April 15, an event organized by the International Association of Art (IAA) under UNESCO’s patronage. The event is a significant platform for nations to promote and celebrate their rich cultural heritage. Preparations for the event are underway, with a preview meeting held at the Ministry of Art and Culture, Entertainment, Festivals, and Sports, MINECO, on Tuesday.
At the meeting, Art and Culture Minister C Lalsawivunga expressed gratitude for Mizoram’s selection, acknowledging the recognition given by IAA India. He underscored the importance of World Art Day and assured that all necessary efforts would be undertaken to ensure a successful hosting. The minister also highlighted Mizoram’s Cheraw dance performance at an event in Turkey, which garnered international acclaim, and expressed confidence that the forthcoming celebration would similarly spotlight Mizo culture on a worldwide stage.
Representatives from the four key departments – art and culture, tourism, information and public relations, printing and stationery, and commerce and industries – outlined their roles in organizing the event. Discussions also focused on logistical arrangements and support mechanisms needed to ensure the celebration’s success.
This development follows earlier discussions between IAA Mizoram chapter, IAA India president Manaj Saha, and Chief Minister Lalduhoma on February 7 regarding Mizoram’s hosting of the event. With the state’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts scene, Mizoram is poised to make a significant impact on the global stage. Hosting World Art Day provides the state and the Mizo community with a valuable opportunity to showcase their unique cultural identity to a global audience.
As preparations continue, the people of Mizoram can look forward to a celebration that will not only promote their cultural heritage but also foster international understanding and exchange. With its unique blend of traditional and modern art forms, Mizoram is primed to make a lasting impression on the global art community.
