Thunderstorms Unleashed: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Lightning and Gusty Winds in Assam and Tripura
As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a forecast for the next five days, residents in Northeast India can expect a mix of rain and hot, humid weather across the region. From Arunachal Pradesh to Tripura, localized showers and thunderstorms are predicted to bring relief from the sweltering heat.
According to the IMD, Tuesday will see light to moderate rainfall in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, with isolated showers expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura. Meanwhile, Manipur and Mizoram are likely to remain dry, with maximum temperatures expected to remain stable across the region. The IMD anticipates localized hot and humid conditions in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, with Assam and Meghalaya experiencing pockets of hot and humid weather.
The forecast takes a turn on Wednesday, with isolated rain showers predicted for Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, while Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to see dry conditions. This trend is likely to continue on the third day, with hot and humid weather affecting parts of Assam and Meghalaya.
By the fourth day, light rain is expected in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura, with dry conditions persisting in Manipur and Mizoram. Assam and Meghalaya may still experience hot and humid weather in certain areas. On the fifth day, Assam is likely to see light to moderate rainfall at multiple locations, with scattered showers predicted for Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura. Arunachal Pradesh may receive isolated rain, while dry conditions are expected to persist in Manipur and Mizoram.
The IMD attributes these weather patterns to a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam and adjoining areas, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. The department has also issued advisories regarding thunderstorms and lightning activity across the region. On the first day, isolated thunderstorms and lightning are anticipated in parts of Assam, Manipur, and Tripura. The IMD cautions that Assam and Tripura could experience thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph on the third day, while Arunachal Pradesh is expected to witness lightning activity. Similar weather conditions are projected for the fourth and fifth days, with Assam and Tripura likely to face thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning at isolated locations, and Arunachal Pradesh experiencing thunderstorm-related activity.
As residents in Northeast India prepare for a mix of rain and hot, humid weather, it’s essential to stay informed about the latest forecast and advisories from the India Meteorological Department. By keeping a close eye on the weather, individuals can better prepare for the challenges and opportunities that come with this unpredictable region.
