Magnitude of Social Outrage: Tesla Locations Across US Under Siege as Protesters Unite Against Elon Musk’s Controversial Stance
Protesters Target 277 Tesla Locations in the US, Demand Elon Musk’s Resignation
Protesters in the United States and Europe have been rallying against Elon Musk’s involvement in the US government, with the latest demonstration targeting 277 Tesla locations across the country. The unconventional leader of Tesla, who also heads the Department of Government Efficiency, is facing criticism for his efforts to cut US government spending and have access to highly sensitive data.
The protest, which is the first nationwide coordinated effort, has gained momentum, with even a Democratic politician and celebrities joining the cause. In New York City, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Manhattan Tesla store, demanding Musk’s resignation. The situation is particularly dire, as a decline in Tesla sales is already being felt, with the protesters hoping to further exacerbate the issue.
Environmental activists from Planet Over Profit are also voicing their opposition, stating that opposing Elon Musk’s actions is crucial for public safety and democratic preservation. One prominent protester, 70-year-old psychologist and anti-Vietnam War veteran Amy Neifeld, likened Musk’s leadership to fascism, citing her own experiences as a Jewish woman in the post-Trump era. “I’m Jewish, and I grew up with a deep awareness of what fascism is. And it’s only gotten worse since the election,” she told AFP. “We have to do something very quickly because he’s moving very quickly.”
Similar protests were held in London, where about two dozen protesters held signs lambasting Musk outside a Tesla dealership, with passing cars and trucks honking in support. One sign displayed at the London protest featured a photo of Musk next to an image of Adolf Hitler making the Nazi salute, an action that Musk has been accused of reprising shortly after Trump’s inauguration.
The anti-Musk sentiment has led to acts of vandalism, including arson, from his opponents, with some describing these actions as “domestic terrorism.” In response, Musk has expressed surprise and condemnation at a company meeting in March 2023. The ongoing protests and controversy have sparked concerns about the future of Tesla and its leadership under Elon Musk.
