Teen Girl Found Dead at Government Shelter After Reported Abduction; Investigation Underway
A 16-year-old girl who had gone missing earlier and was traced after an investigation was found dead at a government-run centre in Etawah, officials confirmed. District Magistrate Avanish Rai has formed a three-member committee to investigate the death and directed it to submit a report within two days.
According to police, a 21-year-old man – a relative of the girl – was booked for allegedly abducting her earlier. Her family, however, was against their relationship, and police alleged that the girl was kidnapped by the man. After being traced, the girl had been taken to the centre on the directions of the Child Welfare Committee. The police have been examining CCTV footage from the centre and recording statements of the staff and three inmates. No suicide note was found.
The case took a dramatic turn after the girl went missing on February 23. Her father had reported her missing, and a police investigation followed. The police finally arrested the 21-year-old man on March 26, and the girl was found safe. However, she refused to go with her family and instead was sent to the shelter for protection. Her medical examination was also conducted. The youth is currently in jail, facing charges of kidnapping.
Following her death, the girl’s family arrived at the shelter and staged a protest, alleging foul play in connection with the death. The police have handed over the body to the family for final rites. The investigators have assured that they will take action based on the findings of the inquiry. The case has sent shockwaves across the country, with many questioning the handling of the case and the safety of young girls in similar situations.
As the investigation continues, many are watching to see if the authorities will be able to unravel the mystery surrounding the girl’s death. One thing is certain, however – the case has highlighted the need for greater protection of young girls in the country, and the authorities owe it to the family and the girl to get to the bottom of this tragic incident.
