Heartbreaking Tragedy: Wife of Arrested Driver Pleads Innocence in Delhi UPSC Aspirant’s Death, Says ‘Anyone Would Have Done It…’
Wife of Arrested Businessman Defends Husband in Tragic Flood Incident Case
Shima Kathuria, spouse to businessman Manuj Kathuria, has come forward in defense of her husband following his arrest over a tragic flood-related incident in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants. Manuj Kathuria was detained after his SUV was allegedly implicated in flooding that compromised the gates of Rau’s Study Circle coaching center. His vehicle has been seized by authorities.
In an interview with News18, Shima Kathuria recounted the distressing ordeal, revealing that police had initially assured them there would be no criminal charges against Manuj. However, soon after, he was arrested, leaving the family bewildered and alarmed. Shima noted that the charges, which include a non-bailable offense under Section 105, were only disclosed after persistent requests for the FIR copy were denied.
Shima Kathuria countered allegations that her husband’s SUV was speeding, referencing video evidence that purportedly shows the vehicle’s brake lights illuminated, indicating cautious driving. She explained that as the water level rose to the bonnet of the SUV, Manuj had no choice but to continue forward through the waterlogged road to reach a safe spot.
“The brake lights were on. In a situation where the water comes up to the bonnet of your car, no person wants to deliberately get into that so he was constantly braking. By the time he realised the water had come up to the bonnet, it was too late for him to turn back," Shima told News18.
Expressing faith in the judicial system, Shima stated, “We believe our judicial system will deliver justice. My husband was merely trying to reach a safe spot in an emergency situation.” She also suggested that the gate of the Rau’s IAS Study Circle was already weakened due to frequent waterlogging, contributing to its failure during the flood.
Tragically, three civil services aspirants lost their lives when water from a flooded drain inundated Rau’s IAS Study Circle’s basement library in Old Rajinder Nagar on Saturday evening.
