Meghalaya’s Biggest Drug Haul: Manipur Police Seize 10.5 kg of Drugs Worth Rs 10.5 Crore in Major Operation
Manipur Police Seize 10.5 Kilograms of High-Grade Heroin in Raids Across State
In a significant breakthrough, the Manipur Police claimed to have seized a substantial quantity of high-quality heroin powder, worth approximately Rs 10.5 crores in the regional clandestine trade, in a series of raids across the state over the past 48 hours. The impounded drugs, weighing around 10.5 kilograms, were smuggled into the state from Myanmar via National Highway 102, which connects Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland.
In a press release, the Manipur Police stated that the drugs were recovered from three suspected smugglers, who were arrested in Imphal East and West districts. The authorities also seized a Bolero vehicle and a large quantity of soap cases, which were packed with the illegal drugs. The accused individuals, who have not been named, were taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of law before being forwarded to the concerned court.
According to the police, the first raid took place on March 25, 2025, when they apprehended three drug traffickers who were inpossession of 5.5 kilograms of suspected heroin powder. The Imphal East district police then received a tip-off about another abandoned Bolero vehicle in the area, which led to the recovery of 419 soap cases containing approximately 5 kilograms of suspected heroin powder.
In a separate operation, the Imphal West district police arrested three more drug smugglers who were transporting illegal drugs along National Highway 02, which connects Imphal to the Mao area at the Manipur-Nagaland border. The authorities recovered a total of 461 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder, weighing approximately 5.5 kilograms, from the accused individuals.
In the end, the combined seizures from the three drug traffickers resulted in the recovery of a staggering 880 soap cases containing approximately 10.5 kilograms of suspected heroin powder. The drugs were likely intended for distribution in the state, and the recent seizures are a significant blow to the criminal organizations involved in the illegal drug trade.
The Manipur Police’s swift and effective action has sent a strong message to drug smugglers that the state will not tolerate the illegal drug trade. The authorities are continuing to work tirelessly to root out the criminal networks and bring those responsible to justice.
