“Riyan Parag Bares Soul, Opens Up on RCB’s Crushing Defeat to KKR: ‘I Take Full Responsibility’
IPL 2025: Riyan Parag Opens Up After Rajasthan Royals’ Second Consecutive Defeat to KKR
Rajasthan Royals’ captain Riyan Parag has been left rueing his shot after his team fell to their second successive defeat in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, going down to defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets. Parag, who scored 25, admitted that he was personally rushed into his shot at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium and his dismissal triggered a slide for the Royals, who managed a meager 151/9.
The Rajasthan Royals were looking to post a big total, with Parag confiding that 170 would have been a “really good score” for them. However, his own dismissal, caught by Quinton de Kock off Varun Chakaravarthy’s bowling, set the tone for a disappointing collapse. “I personally rushed a little bit, knowing the wicket here,” Parag admitted. “Fell short by 20 runs. That was the plan, to get Quinny out early, but that didn’t happen. So, we shifted to containing in the middle overs. He played really well, so kudos to him.”
Parag also spoke about his unusual batting position, opening the batting at number three. “Last year, the team wanted me to bat at number four, I was happy to do that. This year, they want me to bat at number three, so I need to be professional to bat wherever the team wants me to, so I am okay with that.” He emphasized the need for the team to come together and be consistent, stating, “It’s just about coming together for a whole match. We are doing very well in small phases. It’s time that we put together a good match, and then the results are going to be in our favour. We take the learnings, we take our mistakes, we make sure we don’t repeat them again and come back for Chennai with a fresher mindset.”
For Kolkata Knight Riders, Moeen Ali and Varun Chakaravarthy were instrumental in restricting the Royals to a low total, before Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 97 helped KKR complete the chase with 15 balls to spare. Captain Ajinkya Rahane praised his team’s bowling effort, saying, “Firstly, we bowled really well in the first six overs. The middle overs were crucial too – the way the spinners controlled things. Moeen got his opportunity, and he bowled really well. This is a format where we want players to play fearlessly, we want to give them freedom.” He also credited the bowlers for their tireless efforts, saying, “The challenge is to stay in the moment, and every game is an opportunity to learn.”
In a sport where momentum is crucial, the Rajasthan Royals will look to regroup and bounce back stronger, while the Kolkata Knight Riders will aim to capitalize on their winning streak.
