According to Sumita Dawra, Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, employees will be able to withdraw up to Rs 1 lakh instantly, with the freedom to check their PF balances directly on UPI platforms and transfer funds to their preferred bank accounts without delay. This move is aimed at providing greater convenience to the millions of EPFO members across the country.
Currently, withdrawing PF funds involves submitting online claims and waiting for approvals, often taking several days or even weeks. The new UPI integration, however, will make withdrawals seamless and hassle-free, allowing employees to access their money whenever needed. Additionally, EPFO is expanding the reasons for which members can withdraw their PF savings, apart from medical emergencies. Now, employees will be able to utilize their funds for housing, education, and marriage, providing greater financial flexibility.
The EPFO has made considerable strides in digital infrastructure, integrating over 120 databases, reducing claim processing time to just three days, and achieving an automatic processing rate of 95%. Further upgrades are underway to streamline the system even further.
