Corruption Scandal Rocks Dhubri’s Healthcare System: ‘Trust Betrayed’ as Trainees Accuse Officials of Bribery over Assam’s Three-Month Programme
Scandal Rocks Office of Joint Director of Health Services in Dhubri
The Office of the Joint Director of Health Services in Dhubri, Assam, is facing intense scrutiny after a high-level official directive was allegedly disregarded, sparking accusations of corruption and procedural misconduct. According to sources, the controversy centers on a three-month hospital training program that was conducted in contravention of Order No. HSE/Misc/223/2016/6465, issued by the Director of Health Services, Hengrabari, Guwahati-36.
At the heart of the scandal is Joint Director Natyabir Das, who claims to have received verbal approval from his superior to allow recognized D.Pharm candidates to participate in the training program. However, this claim is at odds with the official directive, which has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the entire process. Moreover, sources suggest that candidates from Kokrajhar district were allowed to apply, bypassing local candidates, further muddying the waters.
Das has rebutted the allegations, stating that he collected between Rs 3,000 and Rs 7,000 from each candidate in exchange for securing their placements in the training program. This brazen move raises questions about the integrity of the whole operation. The fact that Das has been operating from a separate section within the department’s campus, away from official oversight, has created an atmosphere of mistrust and unease.
The surge in applications for the training program following Das’s appointment as Joint Director has only added to the discontent, with officials and health department staff expressing disappointment over the lack of transparency in the selection process. While transparency and accountability are essential in any government institution, the health sector, in particular, demands the highest standards. It is imperative that the authorities take swift and decisive action to address these concerns and restore faith in the system.
