Join the Vibrant Celebration: Unforgettable World Theatre Day with Bangalore’s Hindi Theatre Community
Amit Aggarwal, a fervent advocate of Hindi theatre, is gearing up to celebrate the creative essence of this art form by hosting an event for practitioners in Bangalore. Scheduled for March 29 at Vyoma Artspace & Studio, JP Nagar, this gathering marks World Theatre Day. Amit, who sits at the helm of the Bangalore Hindi Theatre Community, shared that the event aims to unite theatre enthusiasts from across the city to reflect on their experiences and envision the future of Hindi theatre by 2025.
Having immersed himself in the world of theatre since 2005, Amit has played a pivotal role in nurturing the Hindi theatre scene in Bangalore. When he began, the prospect was limited, with only a handful of groups and practitioners. However, driven by a vision to broaden the horizons of Hindi theatre, he established the Bangalore Hindi Theatre Community in 2012, which has since flourished to encompass 50 active groups and a vibrant network of over 1,000 practitioners.
Amit emphasized the community’s evolution beyond mere networking, to becoming a resource hub for those aspiring to enter the theatre landscape. This community offers vital logistical support by facilitating the sharing of stage props and costumes, which not only reduces production costs but also fosters collaborative opportunities among theatre groups. Amit, who operates the community on a voluntary basis, expressed his commitment to providing connections and resources at no cost.
Reflecting his belief in cross-collaboration, Amit opted to form a community rather than an individual theatre group. By doing so, he aimed to eradicate the isolation of groups scattered across the city, enabling actors to seamlessly transition between productions. He explained that the decision to celebrate World Theatre Day on a weekend, March 29, was strategic, ensuring better participation than a weekday event amid Bangalore’s notorious traffic congestion.
As the community prepares for its fourth consecutive World Theatre Day commemoration, past events have seen collaborations with groups like Kalagruha and Lahe Lahe. This year’s celebration promises a vibrant convergence of 150 theatre professionals. Amit assured those unable to attend due to capacity limits that they could connect via the community’s Facebook page for future interactions.
Amit’s journey into theatre began during his college years in Pune; he attributes his transient lifestyle, common to Armed Forces families, as influencing his deep appreciation for theatre’s potential to connect people. Additionally, the Bangalore Hindi Theatre Community assists in bridging local groups with external ones, enhancing cultural exchange and collaboration.
The celebrations will kick-off at 3pm with a review of the past year’s accomplishments and ambitions for the coming years. “On this day, we are not divided by our groups but united by our love for theatre,” Amit remarked, underscoring the event’s ethos. A lineup of performances, music jams, and dialogue sessions will provide a platform for creativity and camaraderie.
Through initiatives like these, Amit Aggarwal continues to champion the cause of Hindi theatre in Bangalore, offering a vital, dynamic space for theatre to thrive, evolve, and captivate audiences.
