Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat Cracks Down on Sub-letting of Trade Licenses
In a move to uphold the integrity of the trade licensing system, the Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat (GNP) has announced plans to take action against sub-letting of trade licenses in Gyalshing. This decision comes on the heels of Urban Development Minister Bhoj Raj Rai’s call to abolish sub-letting of trade licenses. GNP officials have confirmed that they will conduct a physical verification of business establishments in the area, and if any trade licenses are found to be sub-let, they will be cancelled immediately.
According to Municipal Executive Officer (MEO) Gopal Nepal and GNP president Devendra Sharma, the GNP has received instructions from higher authorities to ensure that only the real owners of trade licenses or their immediate family members utilize these licenses for their intended purpose. Sub-letting trade licenses, on the other hand, is considered a serious violation that can lead to cancellation of the license and other measures.
This move has come in response to allegations of irregularities in the issuance of trade licenses by the GNP. Sambhu Chettri, a local resident, had accused the GNP of issuing licenses to individuals based on voter cards rather than domicile documents, as mandated by the government. He had demanded a thorough investigation and intervention from competent authorities to address what he perceived as a serious issue. However, the GNP has refuted these allegations, denying that they have ever issued licenses without proper verification.
Rather, the GNP claimed that in one instance, an individual was issued a trade license with the condition that they would submit their residential certificate within a month. When the individual failed to meet this condition, the license was cancelled. GNP officials emphasized that issuing licenses based on documents such as voter cards is a false claim. They maintained that mistakes can happen, but they are rectified immediately by cancelling the license.
Chettri, however, has dismissed the GNP’s clarifications, claiming that if the authority was not guilty of violating trade license norms, they would not have issued a license to someone without verifying their documents. He described the GNP’s excuse as illogical and against the interests of the local community.
The GNP’s move to crack down on sub-letting of trade licenses is aimed at ensuring the integrity of the system and preventing irregularities. With this initiative, the authority aims to promote a fair and transparent business environment in Gyalshing. The decision is expected to bring relief to genuine traders and stakeholders in the area.
