Heartbroken Sharmila Thackeray Reacts to Navi Mumbai Woman’s Shocking Murder; Dawood Arrested in Karnataka
In a swift turn of events, police have arrested Dawood Shaikh from Karnataka for the alleged murder of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found near Uran railway station, Navi Mumbai. The arrest was made in Shahapur, Gulbarga, two days after the grim discovery.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and his wife, Sharmila Thackeray, addressed the incident, emphasizing women’s safety in Mumbai. “People should have a fear of the police,” Raj Thackeray stated, while Sharmila Thackeray stressed that the crime transcends religious lines, asserting, “Any man who commits such a crime should get punishment.”
The drama unfolded after the victim’s father filed a complaint against Shaikh in 2019 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Deepak Sakore disclosed that the victim and Shaikh had been in touch and met on the day of the murder. A confrontation may have escalated into the fatal encounter, though the exact motive is still under investigation.
The tragic sequence began when the woman’s parents reported her missing on July 25. Her lifeless body, bearing stab wounds, was found around 2 am on Saturday. The victim, employed in Belapur, had taken a half-day leave before her disappearance.
Deepak Sakore noted that Shaikh previously resided in Uran but relocated to Karnataka after the 2019 complaint. The accused, who worked as a driver in Karnataka, maintained contact with the victim until the day of the incident.
As the investigation continues, this case has sparked discussions on ensuring women’s safety and underscoring the need for stringent policing.
