Shocking Footage: Heartless Thieves Stealing Cows Captured on Camera
Cattle Smuggling Continues to Plague Digboi: Recent Theft Captured on CCTV
Despite ongoing efforts by Assam Police, illegal cattle smuggling remains rampant across the state. In a recent incident that underscores the severity of the issue, a CCTV camera on the National Highway in Digboi captured the theft of a cow in progress. This footage has raised concerns among residents, highlighting the persistence of cattle theft and smuggling in the region, often occurring under the local police’s and civil administration’s watch.
Though some culprits are occasionally apprehended, residents argue that the problem is far from under control, calling for more decisive action to dismantle the criminal networks involved. They report repeated incidents of cattle theft and criticize the authorities for not implementing more effective measures.
In a related crackdown, a team from the Jorabat outpost of Basistha Police Station recently intercepted two vehicles loaded with 31 live cattle intended for smuggling into Meghalaya. The vehicles, a Bolero bearing registration AS 26 AC 1386 and another vehicle with registration number AS 12 M 6199, were stopped at the Jorabat crossing early in the morning. Five smugglers—Kaimur Ali (22), Ajijul Haque (23), Abzar Ali (unknown age), Faiz Uddin (26), and Abu Samer (24)—were arrested in connection with the incident.
The continuing saga of cattle smuggling in Digboi and beyond requires urgent and stringent measures from the authorities to protect livestock and address this illicit trade. Residents are demanding comprehensive action to safeguard their cattle and ensure such incidents are eradicated.
