Scammed by the Fab Four: My Battle Against the Beatles Empire!
The Scoop: A Tale of Two Fans – A Tale of Disappointment and Confusion
As a seasoned journalist with a keen eye for detail and a knack for sniffing out the juiciest gossip, I, Rupaliparda, have had the pleasure of digging into the world of John Lennon and the Beatles, and uncovering the secrets of Amazon’s print-on-demand service. It’s a wild ride, my friends, and I’m excited to share it with you.
The Legend of the Quarrymen
Charlie Roberts, a fan of the iconic band, wrote a book about his friends, John Lennon and The Quarrymen, which later evolved into the Beatles. The book, "Just Like Starting Over," was published by his friend, David Bedford, and is available on Amazon. But here’s the thing – Charlie hasn’t received any royalties in over a year. Tony Hetherington, the Financial Mail’s ace investigator, took on the case and got to the bottom of it.
After some digging, it turns out that David Bedford, the author’s friend, introduced the book to IngramSpark, a print-on-demand service. This means that when someone orders a copy, the book is printed, and no stockpile is kept, unless a seller had ordered a dozen copies at once. IngramSpark currently owes Charlie a whopping £26, which should arrive shortly.
Ryanair’s Red-Flagged Booking
M.L. writes to Tony Hetherington about a perplexing experience with Ryanair. She made a booking online for her daughter and son-in-law to fly to France, but the airline "blocked" the booking, claiming that M.L. was a travel agent. The booking was valid, and Ryanair eventually confirmed this, but not before M.L. was left confused and frustrated. Tony Hetherington stepped in, and after some sleuthing, Ryanair explained that the booking was blocked due to a suspected travel agent middleman. It seems that when M.L. made the booking, she took responsibility for the passengers’ security declarations, and a pop-up message on the Ryanair site confirmed her verification.
