Connecting the Unconnected: Arunachal’s Mebo and Dambuk Receive Lifeline Via New Taro-Tamak Bridge
A Bridge to Progress: Oil India and Arunachal Pradesh Team Up to Tackle Connectivity Issues in Mebo
In a crucial meeting, Oil India Limited officials and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu gathered to discuss the pressing infrastructure needs of the region, with a specific focus on constructing a bridge over the Taro-Tamak River. The 30-kilometer stretch of water has been a major hurdle for the residents of Namsing and Gadum villages, who still rely on engine ferry boats daily, a situation made worse during the 2015 monsoon season when the Dibang River’s expansion merged with the Taro-Tamak, causing widespread destruction in the area.
The construction of a bridge will be a game-changer for the people of Lower Mebo and Lower Dambuk areas, serving as a lifeline for upper Assam regions like Migmang, Masgao, and Omorpur, which rely on the Mebo-Dhola road for connectivity. The half-constructed steel cantilever bridge currently suspended in the middle of the river is a poignant symbol of the region’s underdevelopment.
MLA Oken Tayeng expressed his gratitude to CM Khandu for his commitment to addressing the region’s connectivity issues. “Your guidance and proactive approach in addressing key connectivity issues, especially the construction of the Taro-Tamak bridge, are deeply appreciated,” he said. The MLA acknowledged that the exploration process requires multiple NOCs and formal approvals, making road and bridge connectivity essential for development.
With Oil India Limited and the PWD engaged, Tayeng is optimistic about overcoming logistical challenges and ensuring seamless development and connectivity in the region. “I am grateful to CM for his unwavering support in our collective efforts to uplift Mebo sub-division,” he added.
Chief Minister Khandu commended Oil India Limited’s commitment to the project, thanking CGM Arunav Baruah, DGM Aryama Tiwari, and Liaison Officer Dhananjay Morang for their contributions. The Chief Minister reiterated that under MLA Tayeng’s guidance, the state government remains committed to facilitating development initiatives in the region.
The bridge project has the potential to transform the lives of thousands of people in Lower Mebo and Lower Dambuk areas, bringing them closer to the rest of the country. As the construction gets underway, it is crucial that the state government and Oil India Limited work together to ensure its timely completion, providing a safe and reliable crossing point for residents and commuters.
