AIIMS in J&K’s Awantipora on Track to Rise by November: A Boon for Medical Healthcare
The construction of the AIIMS in Awantipora, Kashmir’s Pulwama district, is now expected to be completed by November, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced. This comes after an earlier deadline of December 2024 had passed, sparking concern and debate within the state legislative assembly.
During a recent session, Pulwama MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para fired a question at the government, citing dismay over the delay. “The AIIMS project in Kashmir was started before Jammu, and this should have been completed by now,” he emphasized. The MLA’s query was met with a response from the government, which reported that the physical progress at the Awantipora site had reached 62% completion, with a budget of Rs. 81,212.70 crore utilized so far.
The new timeline for the project’s completion brings welcome news to residents and healthcare professionals alike. Once complete, the 1,000-bed facility is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services in the region. The AIIMS project has been touted as a major milestone in the development of Kashmir’s healthcare infrastructure, and its completion is seen as a crucial step towards improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare-related travel to other parts of the country.
Despite the revised deadline, MLA Para remained unsatisfied with the situation, reiterating the need for an investigation into the causes of the delay. While some have attributed the delay to logistical and funding issues, others have linked it to the ongoing political and economic challenges facing the region. Regardless, the Jammu and Kashmir government’s reassurance of a November completion date should bring some solace to those eagerly awaiting the much-needed upgrade to the region’s healthcare system.
As the project moves closer to its completion, the people of Pulwama and Kashmir can look forward to a significant improvement in their access to quality healthcare. The AIIMS project is a testament to the government’s commitment to developing the region’s infrastructure, and its completion will be a major triumph for the people of Kashmir.
