Golden Opportunity Unleashed: Mizoram Kicks Off 2036 Olympics Training Initiative
Mizoram Aims to Nurture Young Talents for 2036 Olympics with Premier Coaching Program
The Mizoram government is laying the groundwork to identify and develop young athletes to compete at the 2036 Olympics, with the ambitious goal of fielding a strong team. State Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar shared the program’s initiative with the Assembly on Wednesday.
The Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) program, a part of the flagship ‘Bana Kaih’ (Handholding) initiative, has already begun imparting basic coaching to children aged 8-15, aimed at preparing them for future competitions. Under this program, launched by Chief Minister Lalduhoma on January 15, young athletes are receiving training to develop their skills, with a focus on talent identification and development, even in the most remote villages.
To ensure the long-term success of the program, the state government has allocated a significant sum of Rs 2.5 crore and adopted a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, engaging the local community in the initiative. “Our ultimate goal is to see Mizo athletes compete at the highest level on the global stage,” Hmar emphasized. “We will prioritize disciplines where Mizo athletes have medal potential.”
The government is also partnering with sports experts from other states to enhance coaching standards and plans to procure advanced sports equipment to strengthen training facilities. This collaborative approach will enable the most promising young athletes to train with the best resources, increasing their chances of success.
Hmar’s vision for the program is clear: “We want Mizo athletes to compete at the highest level on the global stage. We will give priority to disciplines where Mizo athletes have medal potential.” With this ambitious plan, the Mizoram government is leaving no stone unturned to create a generation of world-class athletes, starting from the grassroots level.
By investing in the young and talented, the government is not only building a strong sporting future for the state but also nurturing its youth with essential life skills, discipline, and confidence. As the program progresses, it will be exciting to track the progress of these young athletes, and the state’s hopes for a strong showing in the 2036 Olympics will slowly start to take shape.
