Heartbreaking Knife Attack at UK Dance and Yoga Workshop: 2 Children Tragically Killed, 9 Others Injured
In a tragic incident in Southport, UK, two children were among the 11 people wounded, and later succumbed to their injuries after a 17-year-old male suspect rampaged through a Taylor Swift-themed children’s dance and yoga workshop on Monday. The attack left nine children and two adults injured, with six children in critical condition.
Armed police, along with 13 ambulances and an air ambulance, responded swiftly to the scene on Hart Street, where the suspect, originally from Cardiff, was apprehended and a knife was confiscated. Merseyside Police reported receiving emergency calls just before 11:50 am local time, detailing multiple casualties. The assault took place during a summer holiday workshop aimed at children aged three to 12, featuring yoga, dance, and bracelet-making activities. Approximately 25 children had been attending the sold-out session at Hart Space, which offers yoga, meditation, and antenatal classes.
Colin Parry, owner of a nearby business who called the police, described the harrowing scene to the PA news agency, likening it to a “horror movie.” Reports emerged of children fleeing the studio onto the street, bleeding from their injuries, as community members used WhatsApp to alert each other to lock doors and windows.
Witnesses, including Bare Varathan, a local shop owner, recounted seeing numerous injured children on the street. The North West Ambulance Service treated eight individuals at the scene before transporting them to various hospitals, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
