Sikkim’s Holistic Health Seminar Draws Top Brass and Experts to Pakyong
A high-profile event kicked off in Pakyong, Sikkim, as the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, officiated the 8th National Seminar on "Yoga and Naturopathy" at the community hall. The seminar, themed "Holistic Health," was organized by the Holistic Health and Research Centre (HHRC) of Sikkim, a prime example of the state’s commitment to promoting well-being and natural healing methods.
The dignified gathering was attended by top officials, including Puran Kr Gurung, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and Fisheries Development departments, Prabha Pradhan, Zilla Upadhyaksha, and others. The Governor, in his address, stressed the significance of yoga and naturopathy, citing its potential to positively impact individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole. He acknowledged India’s rich heritage in yoga, which has gained global recognition through the observance of International Yoga Day.
The Governor emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister’s vision for a developed India by 2047, highlighting the need for progress in both the economic and health sectors. He noted that a synthesis of modern medicine with traditional practices could lead to improved healthcare outcomes. The seminar provided a platform for experts to exchange knowledge, and the Governor encouraged the sharing of experiences, innovation, and critical thinking to achieve holistic well-being.
In his address, Minister Puran Kr Gurung commended awardees for their outstanding achievements and stressed the importance of organic farming, which contributes to sustainable development and public health. He urged students to draw inspiration from the awardees, make a positive impact on society, and consider a career in public service. He also emphasized the benefits of yoga and naturopathy, including natural healing, stress alleviation, and overall wellness.
Dr. Arun Kumar Pradhan, CEO and principal director of HHRC, delivered the keynote address, outlining the seminar’s objective to explore health and social dimensions, strengthen networking, and promote youth participation and knowledge-sharing. He highlighted the importance of yoga and naturopathy in maintaining physical and mental health, emphasizing their role in restoring equilibrium and averting illnesses.
A demonstration of asanas was conducted, illustrating the precautions, steps, and benefits associated with each posture. The event also featured a book release and award ceremony, honoring winners of the speech competition, article competition, and yoga ballet competition. The ceremony also recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to the promotion of holistic health, including Tenzing Loden Lepcha, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gangtok, and others.
The event brought together a diverse audience, including zilla members, panchayat members, department heads, self-help group members, and the general public, showcasing the inclusive nature of Sikkim’s efforts to promote holistic health and well-being. As the seminar concluded, it was clear that the importance of yoga and naturopathy had been further solidified, paving the way for a healthier, more harmonious future for the people of Sikkim and beyond.
