Assam Government Makes Historic Contribution of Rs 33.3 Crore to Empower Tribal Faith Centres
Guwahati: The Assam government has taken a significant step to protect and preserve the state’s rich tribal history and identity by distributing financial aid to various organizations managing places of worship. The state’s indigenous and tribal faith and culture department has allocated a total of Rs. 33.30 crores to these organizations, aiming to promote and preserve the unique cultural heritage of the state’s tribal communities.
According to reports, the department has distributed the funds to various institutions, including the All Assam Brahma Dharma managing committee, which received an allocation of Rs. 10 lakh. Additionally, 100 Bathou Thansali and 98 Brahma temples were each granted Rs. 5 lakh, while 36 indigenous places of worship received Rs. 5 lakh each as the second installment of a series of financial aids. The department also announced a funding of Rs. 10 lakh each for five tribal institutions.
Speaking at the function, Ranoj Pegu, the minister for tribal affairs, emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the indigenous tribal people. “The beliefs and culture of the indigenous tribal people are connected with nature, and protecting it is crucial,” he said. Pegu also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for establishing the indigenous and tribal faith and culture department, which he believes will play a significant role in promoting and preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Jogen Mohan, the minister for transport, hills areas, cooperation, and indigenous and tribal faith and culture department, added that strengthening the beliefs and culture of the indigenous tribal people will have a positive impact on the overall development of the state. “This money will be submitted directly to the district commissioner, and the district resident committee will collect the funds,” he said.
The department’s initiative to preserve the state’s cultural heritage is a step in the right direction, as it acknowledges the importance of preserving the cultural identity of the state’s tribal communities. By providing financial aid to various institutions and organizations, the government is demonstrating its commitment to promoting and preserving the unique cultural heritage of Assam.
