Furious Darjeeling MP Blasts TMC Government, Urgently Calls for Vital Investment in North Bengal’s Prosperity
In a pointed address to Parliament today, Raju Bista, MP for Darjeeling and National Spokesperson for the BJP, lauded the Union Budget for its thorough focus on youth employment, infrastructure, and women-led development. However, he sharply criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal government for alleged mismanagement and corruption.
Bista commended the Union Budget for its positive allocations, including a significant Rs 1000 crore for tea garden workers. Conversely, he condemned the TMC government for discriminatory policies against North Bengal, branding it “the worst Bengal” under TMC rule. He accused the TMC of extensive corruption, citing discrepancies in MGNREGA job cards and the alleged misuse of public resources.
Addressing demographic concerns, Bista urged the Central Government to act against illegal immigration and secure a “Permanent Political Solution” for the region. He also advocated for the inclusion of 11 Gorkha sub-tribes in the Scheduled Tribes list and requested a special financial package for victims of natural disasters in Teesta.
In addition, Bista proposed several development initiatives, including establishing a Central University and AIIMS in North Bengal, enhancing local infrastructure projects such as NH-10 and Siliguri Ring Road. He also called for higher wages and better conditions for tea garden and cinchona garden workers, emphasizing the need for tangible improvements in their living standards.
Bista’s address illuminated stark contrasts between the central and state governments’ approaches, aiming to highlight the Union Budget’s progressiveness while calling out the alleged failures of the TMC administration.
