Shark Tank India’s Founder Stunned by Entrepreneur’s Baffling Perspective on Women’s Safety
Wearable Device for Women’s Safety Wows Shark Tank India Investors
On the latest season of Shark Tank India, a duo from Karnataka, Nandita Yenagi and Sharad Patil, presented their innovative wearable solution for women’s safety, Whale Wearables, on the popular streaming platform SonyLIV. The founders, who describe themselves as "social impact innovators," pitched their patented gadgets, including a glove and a wearable wristband, designed to help women defend themselves against potential threats.
The glove, which can sound an alarm, shine a flashlight, and even deliver a light shock to an attacker, was demonstrated live on the show, showcasing its GPS capabilities and biometric features, which ensure only authorized users can activate it. Nandita, who shared a personal experience of facing harassment on a bus, explained that the idea for the product was born during a candlelight march for women’s safety. Sharad added that the founders had invested Rs 40 lakh of their own money, leaving them with Rs 20 lakh in the bank.
The Sharks were impressed, with Vineeta Singh expressing interest in investing in the company, but also voicing concerns about the potential harm caused to the wrong person. Nandita reassured the audience that the glove’s voltage output would not lead to serious health issues. Aman Gupta pointed out that his smartwatch already features an SOS button, but Vineeta highlighted the need for a more accessible design. The founders acknowledged the feedback, ultimately partnering with Aman and Vineeta for a deal worth Rs 30 lakh in exchange for 3% equity in their company, valued at Rs 10 crore.
While Namita Thapar and Kunal Bahl decided not to invest, Vineeta’s confidence in the product and potential was infectious, paving the way for the successful negotiation. As the episode concluded, it was clear that Whale Wearables had made a lasting impression on the Sharks, with the potential to revolutionize women’s safety in India and globally.
