Congress Leader Condemns “Unprecedented Unfortunate President’s Rule in Manipur

Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge, has slammed the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, terming it an “unprecedented and unfortunate move”. Despite the presence of 55 elected MLAs in the state, the Congress leader believes the decision reflects the BJP-led central government’s failure to effectively govern, bring about a lasting solution, or foster dialogue among communities in the state, which has been plagued by an ongoing conflict.

During his brief visit to Manipur, Ulaka met with Congress leaders, members, and workers to discuss strategies for the upcoming general elections. The meeting aimed to formulate policies and action plans ahead of the polls. Before departing from the state, the Congress leader addressed the media at Congress Bhavan, reiterating the party’s commitment to the people of Manipur and condemning the BJP-led central government’s decision.

Ulaka highlighted that the party’s commitment to Manipur is evident in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which was launched from the state. He emphasized that Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have visited the state to understand and share the pain and struggles of the people. Ulaka criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the Manipur crisis, pointing out that the Congress had moved a no-confidence motion in Parliament to seek answers, but received an unsatisfactory response from Home Minister Amit Shah.

Ulaka assured that the Congress will continue to raise the Manipur issue in the upcoming parliamentary session in March, highlighting the two-year-long conflict. He expressed concern over the deteriorating economic situation in the state and emphasized the need for effective implementation of welfare schemes and development projects. The Congress leader concluded by reiterating the party’s resolve to stand with the people of Manipur and its commitment to the state’s well-being.

The current situation in Manipur is a pressing concern, with the state reeling under the effects of the ongoing conflict. The imposition of President’s Rule has only added to the state’s woes, and it is crucial that the central government takes immediate action to address the issue. As the saying goes, “prisoners of the past” that we must release the troubled state from its shackles and take a step towards a brighter future.
