MAHA POLITICS: Jalna Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Condemns Assault on Youth, Promises Action under MCOCA

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old youth, Kailas Borhade, was brutally assaulted with heated iron rods by two individuals in Anwa village of Bhokardan taluka, Jalna district, on February 26. The brutal attack, which has sent shockwaves across the state, has left the victim fighting for his life. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has termed the assault as “inhumane” and assured the victim that the government will take stringent action against the accused, including the possibility of charging them under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Speaking in the Legislative Council, Shinde stated that he has personally spoken to the Superintendent of Police in Jalna and instructed the police to take all necessary steps to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also assured the victim that the government will provide him with all necessary medical attention and support during his recovery. The victim, who is a farmer, was allegedly attacked by two individuals, including Sonu alias Bhagwat Sudam Daud, who has been arrested, and his absconding brother, who is also an accused in the case.

The assault, which has been widely shared on social media, is believed to have been a result of an old feud between the victim and the accused. The victim was allegedly stripped and beaten mercilessly, with the iron rod used multiple times. According to police, the accused even inserted the rod into the victim’s private parts. The perpetrator has been accused of also inserting the rod into the victim’s private parts, which has left the community in a state of shock and outrage.

Reacting to the incident, senior NCP MLA Chhagan Bhujbal raised concerns over the rising number of murders in the state and called for the Speaker to convene an emergency meeting to discuss the issue. He emphasized the need for all political parties, social workers, and journalists to come together to address the issue.

The Jalna police have registered a case and have launched an investigation into the matter. The guardian minister of Jalna is expected to visit the victim’s village and provide them with necessary assistance. The case is still under investigation, and the accused are yet to be taken into custody. As the incident continues to spark widespread outrage, the government has promised to take stern action against the perpetrators, including possible charges under MCOCA.
