Empowering Tripura: Govt. Unveils Ambitious Schemes and Record-Breaking Budget for 2025-26
Tripura Government Set to Introduce New Schemes, Increase Budget for 2025-26
In a press conference on Wednesday, March 5, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced that the state government is poised to introduce new schemes and increase its budget for the 2025-26 financial year. The budget session is scheduled to begin on March 21, with the central government’s financial plan to be presented beforehand, allowing the state to align its proposals with national schemes.
According to reports, the state had presented a tax-free budget of Rs 27,804.67 crore for 2024-25, carrying a deficit of Rs 410.69 crore. Ahead of the upcoming budget, the finance minister held a series of pre-budget discussions with cabinet ministers, department secretaries, and directors to finalise allocations.
The minister emphasized that provisions would be made for lower-income groups, farmers, and the ST/SC communities, as well as new initiatives for students. The government will continue to provide mobile phones to students, with the initiative to distribute two-wheelers to female students being expanded further.
Infrastructure development and capital expenditure will also see a boost, with a focus on health, road connectivity, tourism, education, and IT. “We have already crossed Rs 6,000 crore, and we are hopeful that this amount will increase further,” the minister said. “New steps will be taken for health, road connectivity, tourism, education, and other sectors. We will also introduce some initiatives for the IT sector. This budget will be beneficial for the people.”
The minister spoke about the continued support for the state’s infrastructure development, stating, “This will be the third budget. When we formed the government in 2018, the budget started increasing. Every year, the budget figures increase, and this year will be no different.” With a focus on healthcare, road connectivity, tourism, education, and IT, the government aims to provide a better quality of life for the citizens of Tripura.
With the budget session set to begin, the state government is expected to table its financial plan, which will be crucial in determining the direction of the state’s economic growth and development. As the finance minister concludes, this budget is likely to benefit the people of Tripura by introducing new schemes and initiatives, and continuing existing ones, making a positive impact on the lives of the citizens.
